Remote Deposit Capture (RDC) scanners and PCs are a familiar situation and setup in banking equipment. And so it is for Teller Check scanner too. There are many things to consider when running your RDC. Many RDC or check scanning devices use the USB port on the PC, Conflicts can happen with other USB devices or when a new device is added to the PC. Be aware of your existing setup and test everything after your new device is added. You may think, well my new device is just a printer or even document scanner. But these devices may cause USB conflicts. Check and verify after a new device install.
Also there's memory to consider too. Sometimes there is just NOT enough Gigs of memory for every device and every program that is running and those programs that are running in the background. You may have program conflicts. Being a Tech from the 1980s, who would have thought Gigs of memory would be enough. Back in the day, we use Megs and Ks of memory. But, I am dating my self. :-) Many programs eat up memory and CPU time which will slow down your USB device. Not to mentioned device drivers that are approved to use, but that's another blog someday.
Remote Deposit Capture and the Personal computer or a Laptop work great together if the proper conditions / setups are met. A slow PC will mean a slow RDC device. Your check scanner will slow down or speed up as it goes with your PC. A happy check scanner user
Check scanners
Simplicity is bliss!! Back to the basics it is when troubleshooting a check scanner. Power off & on the scanner and clean it out. This is an end user procedure that even the OEM (original equipment manufacturer) expects from the user. BUT, simplicity insults and aggravates many users. If I have heard it once, I have heard it twice. Although, many get in a crisis situations and it elevates the emotions and thought process. Cooler heads need to prevail. And start with the basics. And if the Help desk person walks you through then same things that you have already done, just smile and agree, you may have missed something or just going through it again could fix your problem / issue.
Dust is the enemy of the check scanner. So keep a can of air and dry wipes to clean the scanner. You can even take the covers off and turn the scanner upside down to let gravity to pull down any debris or clips.
This will make you a happy check scanner user.

The thrill of the fix
As a bench tech, there is the thrill of the fix. A product comes across your bench or it may be a product assign to you for repairs, but then you have to fix, repair and test. I have experience that in my time and indeed I know the thrill of the fix. In the old days we use volt/ohm meters and O-scopes, to measure voltage and follow the signal. It was great times !! I'm glad that I experienced them. Perhaps it's a blog suggest for another day. :-)
Now, I am in phone technical support and help desk. And the thrill here is to FIX-IT-ON-PHONE !! Back to basics is my theory. Simplicity is bliss !! And often mis-understood. Unisys Source NDP scanner 04/13
The Unisys Source NDP Network Document Processor captures images, reads codelines and endorses documents right from the desktop of your computer. Making the scanner easy to operate was the idea of the scanner with superior document handling and image capturing. But you know that and possibly you're looking for more info to help yourself. There's not much data out there, but I'll briefly share some things that I have found on the unit. Do not be afraid to take it apart. Remove the covers and blow out the gathered dust. Remove the bottom case and do the same. Blow it out and clean the rollers. You will also need to replace the feeder tires in feeder pocket area and keeping a good set of rollers in you tool box is a good idea too. The scanner seems to operate smoothly in network mode. Some models (55 - 57) have two interfaces network (Ethernet and usb) The USB mode acts a little differently, perhaps an intermittent delay. I have found it better to have CAPI, (computer application program interface) to be up and running on the PC before you turn on / power on the scanner in USB mode. Of course, CAPI has to be configured for USB mode, then save and then executed. But I like the network mode better, as the scanner seems to run smoother and consistent. The diagnosic lights are a great indicator of what's going on the scanner. Just remember the function of the traffic light. Red - yellow - green. Of course, green means "GO" you are good to go!! blinking green is ok, scanner is ready to scan. Yellow is caution. Blinking yellow means the scanner is not communicating with the computer and /or could be other things as well. Caution, cautiously inspect the scanner and reseat cables. RED means "STOP" and this not a good condition, but it's a doable condition to deal with. First power off and on, then also try disconnecting the cable and then power off and on. A continual red light means vendor repair and many dollars. SO remember green is go and green is good. Yellow could be a CAPI issue, cable or connection thing or capture program.

Panini MyVisionX teller scanner 041013
Greetings fellow blog followers, I have been away from the keyboard for a while and now as I am on my designated time for approved work stoppage (break) I thought I would blog a bit today. We have a couple of break times (10 & 3) for us, along with lunch time, which is usually taken between 12 & 2pm. It helps to divide the day and plan a work time. Today I am working on the Panini My Vision X teller check scanner. The 601B meaning 60 dpm, unlimited pocket and a black case. It's always good for our customers to know this for identification of the scanner, as the serial number alone is not enough. Any info given always help. We know the area to look at with in the scanner. Also being conscience of the date it was built and volumes of scans or scan count. It has to cleaned and feeder tires replaced. Panini Vision X check scanner
Greetings,
I hope this blog post finds you doing well. I was down and in the hospital but now this week, it’s time to get back in the saddle again. The Panini VisionX check scanner is the flavor of the day.
Well for me, the Service and support tech, it’s knowledge and experience for the task today. We have the advance unit replacement program (AUR) and we keep in stock replacement units on hand to meet the needs of our customers. Although, when one comes across my repair bench, it’s take apart, inspect and clean. Then calibration of the cameras and double feed sensors with the visual inspection of the image and micr data on the test screen.
Sometimes there are install questions. Many times a lot of the responsibility rest with the capture program vendor. But their capture program will work with many scanners on many windows operating systems. Just remember Windows has to see the scanner in device / hardware manager on the USB port.

Digital Check TS230 check scanners
Greetings blog readers, I have been away from the keyboard for while and I was corrected to do so, although, it is about our products, there's a time and place for everything. The Digital Check TS230 teller check scanner is the flavor of this day. I have found that they operate most reliably and consistently. Perhaps not the speed of other teller scanners, but very doable. A great key and may be I should not mention this you all, but you can go to the Digital Check website and down load the scanlite test program to help you with testing the scanner when needed. You can inspect the image, read the micr line and test the endorser print very easy. And this could help you to tweak your capture program for fonts and settings as needed. But on the repair bench, the hardware side, cleaning and blowing out is required work today. Dust and debris are its biggest enmeny, until the cameras and sensors need calibration, which is usually ALL the time. And this what we do at Benchmark Technology group. The Three Rs
There still may be something to the three Rs of education. What are they or do remember ?? Let's see, Reading, wRiting and aRithmetic, the three Rs, reading, writing and arithmetic (math). Some will disagree, but the three Rs do cover alot of things in our education. And I believe that it applies for the past, present and future. For example what we have read in the past will help us today. What we read today will help us in the future. So what we wrote in the past will help us today, what we write today will help us in the future. What I learn to count or add up in the past will help me today. And what I add up today will help me in the future. I believe, I have found a great principle here !!?? Well it's a great thought and if you heed this advice and it helps you, that's great. If you disagree, that's fine too, at least it made you think. But I believe there's diffently something there.

(only to name a few products) This is what I am about, and this what we do. There products, plans and professionalism here for our customers and our potential customer.

Epson Teller printer
H-E-L-L-O EVERYBODY !! IT'S F-R-I-D-A-Y (TGIF)
Friday and catchup day. All sales persons need to close the deal and all field service techs need to wrap it up, and all need to get back to the house for the weekend. . . . Well, another catch up day indeed for me, as I sit here and sip on my McD's large coffee for $.99 cent. (also a sausage muffin $.99 x2, don't tell wife) Today, I will focus on the Epson teller printers, TM-U375, 675 & all 6000 series printer. A clean validater is a working validater, but, sometimes (most times) it's a worn part or gear or belt. This throws off the timing and function of the printer and WE have to fix it. Only for a trained eye and mind. The end user can do a lot of things, even their in-house tech guy, but after long and much usage, it needs to come in. Just drop off it at FedEx or UPS store, we will get it, do our magic, then we will return ship it to you. What a deal !! What a great partnership!! More teller scanners & printers day
Good Morning Everybody,
It's the start of another work week. I was off with the wife and son yesterday, but it's time to get back to work today. I will need to focus on the task and notice the older units that have been here for a while, get them repaired and tested, then return them back to our customer. My trained eye and analyzing experience will accomplish the task. So, I am focusing on the volume of repairs, while giving phone support for our internal staff and our customers. Teller scanners and Teller printers are the focus today.
So have a great day, and oh, from the weekend and my last blog, our local home pro football team, Atlanta Falcons, did not make it Sunday, a sad lost 28-24, to an average team the 49ers, so sad. We tailgated in the living room next to the 48" analog TV set with Spiral ham sandwiches, potato salad, veggies dip in ranch buttermilk dressing and pickles with Cherry Coke zero.

Falcons Friday
G-O-O-D M-O-R-N-I-N-G EVERYBODY IT'S FRIDAY !! (TGIF)
Catch up day, Orders have come in and repairs need to go out today. It's also, a FALCONS FRIDAY, as our local professional football team, the Atlanta Falcons, will play for the NFC championship Sunday 3:00 pm at the Georgia Dome. The no respect for the team started early, but we will see Sunday. Hosting at home a NFC championship game doesn't happen to often if at all for a pro football team. We will be tailgating in the living room around the 48" RCA TV set (analog, don't laugh). We will probably incorporate Sunday afternoon lunch with the tailgating food, It should be fun. A day of FOOD-FAMILY- & A FALCONS WIN.
But there's work to do today. We will have to keep focus on the task at hand. Multi-task is the name of the game today. We will need to be able to change test setup and change repairs at a moments notice. And don't forget the phone support, internal and external our customers. (every body's a customer, if you think about it)

It's a check scanner kind-of-day. Multiple types, sizes and speeds. America still uses checks and they have to be scanned in at the bank or local financial institution. In 2008, I wondered how long would this last, I use 90% debit card and 5% checks and 5% cash. But others, and I am glad, still use checks and they have to be scanned in to gather their information to be processed at the bank. (or other) I am aware and available to the task, and , I will do my very best to complete the task. The customer service process covers many things and I am glad to be apart of this process. Screw driver in one hand and phone receiver in the other. (although, I could use a head set) Clean & repair, and checkout & support, is the task today. :-)

Unisys MVX teller scanner
Unisys MyVisionX teller scanner is the scanner of the day. Particularly, the 301, 30/100, 30 dpm document per minute and unlimited feeder, although 25 to 30 checks in the pocket work well. It's alittle slower but very consistent. As to a faster one that tends to jam more often. With screw driver in one hand and a phone receiver in the other, I take care of the customer as much as possible. And to take care of your product, we can do that as well. FDFFW 2013
We're back, it's the first day of the first full week and there is much to do. Customers put orders in for refurbished units hoping to use what was left of the 2012 budget. Many repairs were sent in via UPS & FedEx, where the customers are wanting to start the year with repaired units and repaired spares. I will have to multi-task today. ( well, that's everyday actually) Test / repair and technical phone support. I am glad to have a job. Epson teller printers and check scanners will be the required duties of the day. Panini MyVisionX check scanner

Unisys Source NDP scanner
Unisys Source NDP model 50 scanner is the scanner repair of the day. They end-of-life this scanner, the Smartsource scanner took its place. But there are many still out there. Many of our customers are using this scanner in back office and high volume usage scanning. Our usual enemy is dust and debris and well as worn parts with our knowledge and experience will need to be checked and/or replaced.
